Who I Am

I'm Stuart, and I research, write, and maintain Classical Ballet Stories on my own. I'm not a professional dancer or academic, just someone who fell for classical ballet as an audience member and got frustrated that so little of the history behind these works was easy to find in one place. So I started writing it down, ballet by ballet, and this site is the result.

Every story on this site is compiled from cross-referencing multiple historical sources, programme notes, and company archives, then written in my own words rather than copied from any single reference. If you spot an error or a detail worth adding, the contact page goes straight to me.

Why It Matters

In an age of digital entertainment and shortened attention spans, classical ballet represents a living connection to centuries of artistic tradition. These works have survived wars, social upheavals, and changing tastes because they speak to universal human experiences: love, loss, transformation, and triumph.
